Travelin’ and Turkey Time
Giving Tuesday
Before diving into the blog, I want to share about the current need at the Finca for donations. As we approach the end of the year, we have $100,000 in matching funds and need to raise the full amount to reach our goal. If you are able, you can donate through the link below.
Thank you so much to each of you for supporting this mission—whether financially or through prayer. We truly could not do it without you! God bless!
Road Trip!
This month, we were blessed to take five of our PAVI kids (our program that teaches practical skills for daily life) on our annual road trip! Every year, PAVI has two trips: one in June that’s educational, and one in November that’s all about fun. This year we headed to Choluteca, a town in southern Honduras—about a 14-hour drive!
The Agenda
Day 1: We took a boat out to Tiger Island, a mostly volcanic island, and hiked to the top for beautiful views of Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. The climb took about three hours, and at the summit we enjoyed peanut butter and honey sandwiches while taking in the scenery. After hiking back down, we circled the island by boat at sunset. The kids were completely silent—either soaking in the breathtaking view or exhausted from the hike—either way, it was a serene way to end the day.
Day 2: We spent the entire day at a water park and ended the night with tacos for dinner.
Day 3: We explored Choluteca, visiting Central Park, a bridge overlooking the river, and trying a typical Honduran drink called pozol. Most of the day was dedicated to shopping. Every year, each child at the Finca gets a new outfit and shoes for Christmas, and we were each assigned a child to shop for. Afterward, we wrapped up the trip with a movie at the theater!
Random Joys and Turkey Time!
We invited the whole Finca to celebrate in our Thanksgivng traditions. We started with a Turkey Trot obstacle course for the kids… and for us, too. We missionaries even held a draft to make teams—it got pretty competitive. The winning team won dinner at our house—and, not to brag (humility in progress), but my team absolutely swept.
Then we played a good old-fashioned game of flag football before heading home to clean up. Later, we all came back together for the big meal. Some loved the food and others put on polite faces. Nonetheless, it was wonderful to share time together as a big family.
