A Season of Waiting
Emily and Teddy portrayed Mary and Joseph as we took part in our Posadas. Posadas are a beloved tradition here in Honduras that help prepare our hearts for Jesus during Advent. Over the nine days leading up to Christmas—symbolizing the nine months of pregnancy—we walk alongside Mary and Joseph as they seek an inn. Through singing, prayer, and reflection, they are turned away twice, until the third home opens its doors. There, we gather to pray, play a game, and share a snack together.
When I think of Advent, I often imagine silence—a quiet preparation for our Savior. That silence is hard to come by here, with eighteen kids between the ages of two and seventeen running around at all times. Yet the noise and chaos are something I am learning to bring into my prayer, rather than allowing them to leave me frustrated. At times, it is challenging, but Jesus is humbling me and taking me outside my comfort zone to show me His face in a new light.
Cati’s Graduation
What a gift it is to witness the fruits of the Finca. Cati arrived at the Finca at just three years old and left at eighteen. When it was time for her to transition out, she had not yet completed high school, so she attended a boarding school in San Pedro Sula for her final three years. Earlier this month, our missionary community had the joy of traveling to stand by her side as she received her diploma. Cati now plans to attend law school, with the hope of advocating for children who have walked paths similar to her own.
Tamale Time!
Here in Honduras, it is cultural to make and eat tamles for Christmas and New Year’s! They make enough to last for almost every meal for 2 weeks.
